All About Me

Welcome to Mike's World where you will get a snap shoot of my life and get to know just a little about who are buying from. Take a little journey through my life with me. If you do you will find out where I was born, who my parents are, when was I married, how many children I have and much more.

Well here we go. I was born in the beautiful state of Maryland way back in 1947. This may not seem like way back to you who are around my age and older, to the younger crowd you know the 5, 15, 25 and 35 year olds it shore does. I'm the youngest of six children born to Clarence and Sara Parsley. My father died in 1982 at the age of 73 but my mother, three brothers and one sister still live in Maryland. My youngest sister lives in that good old state of Virginia. My mom is a Great Mother and doing quite well at the age of 92. Between myself and my brothers and sisters she has 18 Grand children and 29 Great Grand children. Well that's all of us for NOW but I know there will be more I'm shore, just give it a little time

My Early Years

I don't remember much about my early years but I do know we lived in Bladensburg, one of the many cities in Maryland closet to Washington D. C. When I was four we moved to a farm near Rockville Maryland. Life was really different living on a farm to say the least, especially to a four-year-old. You can just imagine all those animals, cows, pigs, chickens and guess what, WOW we have a dog and a BIG yard to play in. I loved living on a farm but when I was old enough there was plenty of hard work to do with little or no pay. That's how it was back then, if you lived on a farm and had children they expected your children to help out. But that was O. K. I learned a lot about life and we had plenty of time to play. The only thing bad about it was, for some reason my dad would change jobs about every two or three years. Now you know what that means, that's right four different towns and five different schools. By the time I was fifteen we moved from farm life to a small sub-division and I do mean small, there was only about ten houses. Once again there was a big change in my life. No more chores, no more walks down that long lane to catch the school bus. Now there was plenty of time to do all kinds of different things. And some of my new friends lived right next store not way down the road like before. A brand new world had just opened for me. The first summer in our new home I went to work with my brother-in law as a construction laborer. For the first time in my life I thought I was making BIG BUCKS .

Adult Life

By the time I was sixteen, I thought I know everything about life so I quit school and went to work. I was on my way to making my mark in life, so now what's next. Well, you guessed it, I meet this beautiful girl and we dated for the next year and half. Just shore of my eighteenth birthday we were married. It wasn't long our first son was born, over the next fourteen years we were blessed with two more boys and two girls. They are all what I like to call BIG people now and doing quiet well. Between the five of them I have ten beautiful grand children.

Most of my adult life I worked in construction, starting out as a laborer and working hard to learn the trade. I like to think that all my hard work paid off. By the time I was twenty-seven, I was a construction supervisor of a small company. I was well on my way to living the American dream.

A Bad Friday

However, On Friday October fifteenth 1976, my American Dream came crashing down. After a hard days work two of my co-workers and I decided to stop and have a couple beers before going home. That was my first mistake, after drinking three beers, It was time to get our butts home. One of my co-workers offered to drive, you think I would let him drive NO NOT ME "the big guy". There is one thing you need to know here, I had this very bad habit of driving way to fast, "He didn't. Mistake, number two. That's right, you got it, Between my bad habit and impaired judgment I lost control of the truck. Mistake, number three, Strike three you are out. As a result of this accident I was thrown out of the truck and broke my neck, leaving me a quadriplegic, confined to a wheelchair. Thank God my two co-warkers only had miner injuries. {Don't feel sorry for me, I know I have no one to blame but myself.} If you would like to feel sorry for someone, feel sorry for my wife and kids. Because of my dumbness it really turn their world upside down. To say the least I didn't make it home that night. I like to think of this experience as the dummy that though his truck was an airplane.

Rehab

It took me about three years to come to grips with being a quadriplegic. Thanks to family, fiends and a lot of other people I learned to live with what happened to me. Over the past twenty-six years I tried many things to get back in the working world but with little success. I tried telephone sales, yes I admit it, I was one of those people that interrupted your dinner I also tried to take advantage of what I knew and became a construction estimator but most of the little construction companys didn't seam to trust my building materials cost. So I started my own home improvement company and did quite well for four years until the economy went south. My gross sales were 95,000.00 in 1989, not to bad for a quadriplegic. At this point in my life the only thing I could say was WELL, so much for that, what's next. It took me a while but I decided to go back to school and get my GED.

Life In Florida

After getting my GED, I got an opportunity to move to Florida, where the weather is warm most of the year. After getting settled in Florida I started working with Vocation Rehabilitation, trying to get them to pay for my collage education in computer programming. Over the next three years I worked with them and their red tape. I don't think they really wanted to pay for it because of my age. So I started taking class in 96 at Daytona Beach Community Collage on my own, working on my AA degree. I can only take two classes each semester because of my disability and lack of money. Unfortunately I haven't gotten it yet because I have had some health problems but I am still working on it. In 1996 I got my first computer and was on line shortly there after. At first I only used my computer and the web for doing things concerning my class work. I knew you could make money on the web but it takes money to get into most of the opportunities. About two years ago I started selling things on ebay and Yahoo with a little bit of success. I think I will be able to make money sell on the auctions but it is a lot of work.
